About Us
Dr. Bethany, Dr. Jonathan, and Elsa are all committed to helping their patients use their remaining vision
as effectively and comfortably as possible. They utilize the latest technology to create solutions for their patients with vision impairments, and
can often customize devices to meet the unique needs of a particular patient.
Dr. Bethany Fishbein first began working with people with vision impairments as a lifeguard at Camp Marcella, the NJ State Camp for Blind Children.
She graduated from Binghamton University in 1993, and from New England College of Optometry in 1997. She completed an internsthip in low vision at the
Eastern Blind Rehabilitation Center in West Haven CT, and has worked at the Low Vision Center of Central New Jersey since 2000.
Dr. Bethany has done many presentations for people with low vision and educators of the visually impaired. She has published articles on low vision practice, and has worked to train other optometrists in the field of low vision.
She is a panel member of NJ Commission for the Blind, and enjoys working with patients of all ages.
Dr.
Jonathan Fishbein has extensive experience in working with the visually impaired. He graduated from University of Toronto in 1993, and New
England College of Optometry in 1997. He completed a residency in low vision at the Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center in Philadelphia PA, where
he later worked as a clinical instructor. He has worked at the Low Vision Center of Central New Jersey since 2001.
Dr. Jonathan is a panel member of NJ Commission for the Blind, and enjoys working with people of all ages.
Elsa
Zavoda, MS OTR/L is a practicing occupational therapist specializing in low vision evaluation and treatment. She was previously the senior
occupational therapist with JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute in Edison, NJ; and is skilled in providing rehabilitation services in a variety of
clinical settings. She successfully implemented the first low vision program at JFK Johnson. Ms. Zavoda received her Master’s of Science in Occupational
Therapy from the University of Indianapolis and is currently completing her graduate certificate in low vision rehabilitation under the leadership
of Mary Warren, OTR/L at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She has recently accepted a position from UAB as a teaching assistant overseeing
two graduate courses. In addition, she is actively pursuing her specialty certification in low vision through the American Occupational Therapy Association.
